Each cottage has a small screened in porch. Free use of all resort facilities (paddleboating, stocked fishing, pools, hot spas, etc.) are available to all cottage guests.

The Evolution of Indian Head Cottages
From humble beginnings in 1917 as a campground for intrepid travelers to New Hampshire's White Mountains, Indian Head has evolved into a major resort that continues to provide hospitality to thousands of visitors to this scenic and historic corner of New England. As America's love affair with the automobile flourished in the 1920's and 1930's, vacationers started taking to the road in record numbers. It was the era of the grand hotel and the eight cylinder family sedan.
Local entrepreneur, Ray Gordon saw a need for an affordable alternative to luxury lodging and opened what White Mountain historian Floyd Ramsey believes were the nation's first overnight rental cottages. The quaint, comfortable cabins were dubbed Indian Head's English Village. Several successful seasons prompted Gordon to add more cottages and bungalows to his growing empire.
White Mountain historian Floyd Ramsey's book "Indian Head - A Dream Fullfilled" featuring many rare photos and vintage postcards is available in Indian Head's Gift Shop.
The day of the roadside cottage waned as motel chains and motor lodges appeared along the highway. As we enter the next millennium, vacation cottages seem as endangered as full service gas stations, Drive-In movies and the roadside diner. With their passing, a bit of our shared American heritage will be gone forever. Today, the management of Indian Head Cottages is dedicated to preserving the classic New England vacation experience and invite you to visit these historic cottages. You'll discover why generations of travelers have made Indian Head a family tradition.
You will be pleasantly surprised by the modern convenience of in room refrigerators, 50" PLASMA HDTV with HBO® Movies, gas fireplace heated cottages and a full range of resort facilities not usually found in one location. Give us a call and we'll be glad to help you plan your classic New England Vacation.
