Short History ~ Indian Head
Indian Head Resort, first named Indian Head Estate, was established in 1929. Initially there were 10 campsites which later grew to more than 70 cabins and bungalows. In 1935, a group of 20 three-room cabins were opened and in 1936, 29 more cabins were added and named English Village.
A wooden observation tower was built on the west side of Rt. 3 to view the famous Indian Head Rock Profile. Because of the wooden tower's popularity, a more sturdy steel tower was constructed. In the 1950's the 100-foot steel observation tower was moved across the street to its present location following the relocation of the main office and facilities.
In the 1950's Indian Head converted to motel room accommodations which are the eleven rooms above our main lobby and dining room. Since then the resort has grown to 98 motel rooms of varying accommodations, 40 cabins, 4 bungalows, a dining room with a capacity of 300+ people and facilities that include indoor/outdoor pools and hot spas, tennis courts, a game room, newly expanded Thunderbird Lounge Entertainment Complex and Shadow Lake for fishing and paddleboating. We are open Year-Round. The Spanos family has owned and operated Indian Head since 1962.

Short Info on Indian Head Rock ProfileThe Indian Head Rock Profile This natural rock profile, formed during the great ice age some 6,000 years ago, forms the summit of Mt. Pemigewasset (El. 2,593 ft.) and measures over 100 feet tall from top to bottom. Fully exposed during a forest fire in 1901, the Indian Head profile was long ago used as a lookout by Chief Pemigewasset of the Abenaki Indian Tribe.
