A Weekend in the White Mountains - Part 3

We're in for another beautiful August weekend! What better way to enjoy it than spending time in the White Mountains?

See a show at Jean's Playhouse

10 Minute drive from Indian Head Resort

Spend your first night in the mountains at the theater.

Jean's Playhouse in Lincoln is now open for a limited entertainment season! Every Friday until the end of August the theater will be hosting a variety of different shows. Checkout their website to see who's performing, purchase tickets and to catch up on their guidelines so you know what to expect during your visit.

Hike Mount Osceola & East Osceola

5-6 hours roundtrip

If you're looking to knock out a few 4,000 footers but want a trail that's a little easier, Mount Osceola and East Osceola are the perfect combo.

A few weeks ago, I made the mistake of hiking up Osceola and not continuing over to East Osceola, so last weekend I hiked up East Osceola to make up for it! The summits are only about a mile apart, so I would definitely recommend hitting these two peaks in one go.

The Mount Osceola Trail is not very difficult at all and great for hikers who aren't super experienced. It's a steady incline but nothing too extreme and the summit is pretty spacious with gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains (right). Continue the trail over to East Osceola but don't expect anything like the views you just saw. The summit is surrounded by trees and although there is a small lookout point, it's pretty limited (left).

If you want to reach East Osceola first, you could take the Greeley Ponds Trail, but I would only suggest this for experienced hikers. The trail is super steep and has slippery rocks, making it extremely hard to go up, and even harder to go down! The Mount Osceola Trail is not nearly as hard and makes for a much more enjoyable hike.

Climb the Tower

One of the most defining features of the Indian Head Resort is the 100 foot lookout tower.

For those who have never been up there, anyone who has can attest that if you think the views from the ground are spectacular, the views from 100 feet up are unmatched.

This is especially great for those who might not love hiking, but still want to get a glimpse of the beautiful views from above.

So before your weekend comes to an end, buy a token and ascend the tower for 360 degree views of the beautiful White Mountains. You will not be disappointed!
